COSMO library examples UPDATED

This page shows some (hopefully) pertinent examples of applications of the COSMO library to visualize COSMO model output. The user is encouraged (!) to add his own examples.

Example 1: Relative humidity and Geopotential at 850hPa

The following plot uses the COSMO library to make a plot of information contained in the operational pressure level files. The projection is a Stereographic projection corresponding exactly to the one MetView uses for the Model Browser plots.

Example 2: Equivalent potential temperature and pressure at 3000m

The following plot uses the COSMO library to make a plot of information contained in the operational model level files. The fields are interpolated to the 3000masl level. The plots are in the native grid format and not transformed to some geographic projection. The equivalent potential temperature is computed in the script, in spite of being available when calling jmb_getvar.

Example 3: Wind speed and potential temperature at 47N

The following plot uses the COSMO library to make a plot of information contained in the operational model level files. The fields are interpolated to the 47N isosurface. The plots are transformed to physical space from the native grid, thus the underlying topography is visible.

Example 4: COSMO-7/2 composite movie

The following movie has been generated by extensive usage of the COSMO library. It is an animation of isolines of 700 hPa geopotential, regions of increased humity (stippeled, RH > 75% @ 700 hPa) and hourly surface precipitation (filled contours). The COSMO-2 data is overlaid for the first 24 hours into the forecast.
